Most young New York couples expect never to divorce

Most people in New York have heard the statistic that indicates that 50 percent of all marriages will end in divorce. Despite this, it appears that a large percentage of young couples expect their marriage to stand the test of time. Additionally interesting, according to one survey, the majority of young people who are most determined to avoid divorce have parents who were divorced. Meanwhile, statistics suggest that these children are actually more likely to get divorced than others.

Some may be surprised at the optimism of young people considering the times. Just in the world of celebrities it's almost impossible to go a day without seeing a story about a divorce. One glaring example for those in New York is the recent divorce of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

Of course, no one likely enters into a marriage planning to get divorced. True, a lot of people have prenuptial agreements and set up trusts to protect their assets in the event of a divorce, but that doesn't mean they actually think their marriage will end. Those are just precautions that most people never anticipate will come into play.

However, as mentioned above, it is an unfortunate truth that 50 percent of marriages in the United States end in divorce. A couple considering divorce needs to be advised on the best course of action for their family. There are several major issues that will need to be resolved. The more of those issues that can be identified and agreed on out of court may help a couple and their family get through an already tough situation more easily.
